On the evening of Monday, July 15th our home was filled with friends and
family -- Steve, Cory, Catherine, Bonnie, Candace, Cat, Nicola and myself.  Steve was surrounded with women who loved him dearly.  Those afternoons or evenings spent with our female friends were times he became one of "us girls."

He rested and dozed in bed listening to gentle, easy conversation and sweet laughter.  When Steve became hungry and wanted to stretch his legs, he chose to get out of bed and sit on the upstairs bedroom love seat.  Candace brought in a delicious meal from a local Asian restaurant, and Steve ate a warm and bountiful meal. Nicola even retrieved seconds for Steve at his request. This was more food than he'd eaten in days.

I asked Steve before going to sleep on Monday night, if he wished for me to wake him or let him sleep the next morning.  He told me to "let him sleep."

After preparing a breakfast of oatmeal and berries for our guests on Tuesday morning, I decided to ask Steve if he'd like a bowl of oatmeal.  When I got upstairs I could not awaken him.  Steve was quietly and gently leaving us; his fierce, pain-free and dedicated fight was over.  Rest in peace, BB.
