Celebration of Steve Ready’s Life
Saturday, September 14, 2013
6:00 - 9:00pm
Museum of Glass, Tacoma, WA

On Tuesday morning, July 16th Steve peacefully passed away at home.   He’d had a joyful Monday evening with seven dear women friends.   Being one of “us girls” was a great pleasure of his over the years.

A Blessing ceremony took place Saturday morning, July 20th at the Haven of Rest, Gig Harbor.  The Deacon from Gig Harbor’s Catholic church offered the Blessing to Steve, his family and friends.   A viewing took place for several hours that day.  His mother Margherita, sister Paula, nephew JP, niece Torey and her fiancee Joey had flown up from Southern California.  Our daughter Cory, granddaughter Carly, sister Terri and visiting friends attended as well.  Steve was cremated on Monday, July 22nd.

You have known Steve and will remember him.  Your acknowledgements and wonderful stories are filling the hole that was left in my heart.  I thank you.

I would like you to know about this Celebration of Steve Ready’s Life and offer you this invitation to attend.   campw.blogspot.com is another way to celebrate Steve’s life.

So let us celebrate this courageous, much-admired, delightful man and wish him all the
very best.   Rest in Peace, Steve.

  1. Steve and I were like brothers when we were growing up on 44th Street in Seattle. We spent countless hours wrestling, playing kick-the-can, racing our bikes, and watching Howdy Doody and The Lone Ranger on our small black-and-white TV. His mother Rita and my mother Dorothy kept us happy with endless peanut butter sandwiches and milk. Steve moved to California in the late-50’s and we lost touch for many years. We re-established contact in the mid-80’s when he and I both moved back to the Seattle area.
Steve had a prodigious memory of the details of our childhood. He was able to describe our rec-room of 60 years ago with amazing clarity. He could recall the names and faces and personalities of every one of our neighbors. He talked eagerly of his love for MaryAnne, his success in the bicycle business, and his enthusiasm for motorcycles and small airplanes. He never once complained about his failing health; he faced his trials with a smile and a love for life that was nothing short of amazing.
Steve faced his inevitable demise with boundless courage. Farewell, good friend. May you rest in peace.

During this last winter Steve and I would get back in bed with our pjs on while he told me childhood stories of life on 44th Street. I'd input them, laughing and happily tearful at times as he told stories like no one I've ever known.

The file he asked me to create for these stories "Memoirs"is full of his most lasting memories. Of course, the Schwagers play a big part of these. I think you would enjoy reading them. He didn't finish them, and they're finished now. Delightful, precious, funny .....
